Methods Workshop at the Center of Gender Studies (ZG) of the University of Paderborn
Methods Workshop on 8 June 2021, 1-4 p.m.
"Doing family. Collective Survey Methods for Researching Diverse Families" with Prof. Dr. Mona Motakef.
(Workshop in German language)
How is family produced and lived in the everyday practices of LGBTIQ* families? How does heteronormativity become relevant for these families? What inclusions and/or exclusions do they experience and how do they negotiate them? This workshop will provide insights into the ongoing research project „Ambivalente Anerkennungsordnung. Doing reproduction und doing family jenseits der 'Normalfamilie'“ (MO 3194/2-1, PE 2612/2-1, WI 2142/7-1) focusing in particular on methodological issues. In this project, collective forms of data collection were used, i.e., couple and family interviews. These are particularly informative when exploring the interactive production and negotiation of power and inequality within couples or families. In the workshop, the differences, potentials, and challenges of collective forms of data collection will be discussed and demonstrated using empirical material.
