We at the 43rd Congress of the German Sociological Association (DGS) on the topic “Futures of Society”
The Professorship “Sociology of Gender Relations” department looks forward to sociological exchanges at the DGS Congress in Mainz at Johannes Gutenberg University (JGU).
Dr. Holly Patch will give a presentation on “Agrarian Lasting Beyond the Family Farm” in the ad hoc group “Quo vadis rural areas? Between Limitation and Shaping—Scope for Action and Social Futures”
Prof. Mona Motakef will lead a discussion of the joint monograph “On the Path to Normality? LGBTQ+ Families and Their Struggle for Recognition” at an “Author Meets Critics” event together with Dr. Julia Teschlade and Prof. Christine Wimbauer. Prof. Karl Lenz (Dresden) and Prof. Mike Laufenberg (Fulda) will provide commentary.
In addition, together with Prof. Nina Hossain, Dr. Lena Weber, Prof. Tine Haubner, and Dr. Virginia Kimey Pflücke, she is organizing a joint event for the Sections on Women’s and Gender Studies and Labor and Industrial Sociology. The event addresses the topic “The Futures of Labor and Gender Relations in Late Capitalism.”
As the lead spokesperson for the Women’s and Gender Studies Section, she is also inviting attendees, together with the Council, to the general meeting, where a new Council will be elected and an award will be presented.
Doctoral candidates from the department are also well represented:
Luzia Schmittmann will present on the topic “The Household as a Workspace of the Future” with her Chemnitz team as part of the ad hoc group “Workspaces of the Future.”
Lillian Hümmler, together with Sophie Bauer and Marie Reich, is organizing the ad hoc group “The Ugly Side of Reproduction: Emotions and Affects in Contemporary Reproductive Relations” and will present on the topic “Caught in a Bad Romance: Shame and Sexual and Sexualized Violence in Capitalist Conditions”
Sarrah Bock and Hanna Wilmes, together with Svea Kietzmann and Lisa Schäfer from the doctoral program “New Challenges in Aging Societies,” are organizing the ad hoc group “Future Lab: Aging Amid Uncertainty, Inequality, and Dignity.” Sarrah Bock will give a presentation here on “Aging Processes of the First Generation of Labor Migrants from North Africa Who Came to Germany Under the Recruitment Agreements of the 1960s,” and Hanna Wilmes will speak on “‘I Wish It Were More Than Just a Space of Possibility’—Visions of the Future at the Intersection of Aging and Bisexuality.”
Marlene Resch will deliver two presentations: “‘We’re Not a Couple, We’re Something Else’—Self-Conception and Family Practices of Co-Parents” at the section event “Relationships of the Future: On New Forms of Social Networking” hosted by the DGS Section on Sociological Network Research, and “‘Father with an Uncle-like Role’?” Differentiation of Father Roles in the Context of Co-Parenting” in the ad hoc group “Past, Present, and Future of Fatherhood and Masculinity”
Last but not least, Christine Best will present her dissertation project in the ad hoc group “Sociological Research on Menstruation: Current Topics and Questions in a Growing Field of Research.” Her presentation is titled “‘I just struggle through it and try to get it done somehow’—Empirical Highlights from a Qualitative Study on the (In)Visibility of Menstruation in the Workplace.”
